30 Days to Plan

I stumbled upon an article on MSN about how to plan a wedding in 30 days. It walks you through from 30 days out to 5 days before, and it’s a pretty good list. Of course, I have an addition.

Their first step is to decide on a budget, guest list and the style wedding you’re wanting. This is a must. You really cannot move forward with making decisions until you know your budget and how you’re going to allocate it, how many people you’re expecting and what you’re wanting. This will narrow down some of your searches. After this step I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a wedding coordinator. No, I’m not just saying that because I am one, I’m saying it because planning a wedding in 1 year can be stressful. Trying to do it in one month can be overwhelming for a bride. Below are a few reasons why you should consider hiring a coordinator if you’re planning in a short amount of time.

1. They have connections with vendors that can save you money. A month-of coordinator, depending on area and experience, will cost somewhere between $600-900. Well worth it when you consider how much you could save by using their connections!

2. They will save you time and stress. Planners know the process. They can keep you focused and help you cut out some of the anxiety that comes with planning a wedding, especially one happening so quickly.

3. If you’re working full-time, they will have more time to devote to planning. They can do most of the legwork when it comes to researching and calling vendors for availability and pricing. And again, this will take some of the stress off your plate.

4. They have great advice and can help guide you to your vision. There’s usually a period of time after an engagement (whether it be 1 week or 6 months) where brides peruse magazines, attend bridal shows, and visit various websites like Pinterest and The Knot to get ideas for their wedding before they start calling vendors and making the big decisions. When you’re planning a wedding in such a short amount of time, you don’t necessarily have that luxury. Your planner will be able to take your ideas (that you haven’t had much time to research) and run with them.

Other than this one big addition, their list is pretty good! There are still a couple things I would switch in terms of order (registering doesn’t necessarily need to be the third thing you do, especially now that you can create registries most anywhere online) but all-in-all pretty good.
